Just a few “nothing going on here, let’s waste a few rolls of film” winter blues photos.

Venice, March 2023

A visit to Venice for the second time, over the weekend of 4 to 6 March. It’s interesting how you see a city with different eyes the second time around. Fortunately, there were not so many tourists this time.Verona railway station.

Padova.

Arrived in Venice.

Italian politics…

Head down!

At Caffè Florian near Piazza San Marco. 15 euros for a cappuccino, but the experience is worth it.

On the Ponte di Rialto.

On the way back to Switzerland.

A visit to the islands of Murao and Burano.

Norway Photography Expedition – Part III

From February 7 – 17, 2023, I was on a journey to Northern Norway with three near strangers. We have seen and experienced a lot and the time together will remain in my memory for a long time. Here I continue with the digital photos of the expedition.

Exploring Senja Island.

Back in Laukvik.

Another atmospheric scene at Laukvik cemetery.

By ferry from Bottnhamn to Tromsø.

Tromsø Fjellet P-hus tunnel parking.

As we crossed the bridge on foot, we saw military ships passing underneath us. A nightmarish sight in the current situation.

The Tromsdalen kirke on the other side of the bridge.

On the return journey, waiting for the ferry..

Northern lights covered by clouds.

The ferry is coming.

The last round trip on Senja before we leave for Kiruna again.

The last night in Laukvik.

On the second last night in Kiruna we were lucky with the northern lights.

The old part of Kiruna city.

The new town hall in the new district.

On the way by bus to the LKAB iron ore mine.

Entering the tunnel.

Arrived in the exhibition part of the mine at a depth of 500 metres.

An interesting and comprehensive tour. The LKAB iron ore mine in Kiruna is considered one of the most modern mines in the world.

All machines are electrically powered.

It goes back to the surface, happy Fab.

The old part of Kiruna city at night. Everything behind these blue barriers is deserted.

The last night in Kiruna hunting for northern lights. Unfortunately without much success.

The road to Kiruna.

Norway Photography Expedition – Part II

From February 7 – 17, 2023, I was on a journey to Northern Norway with three near strangers. We have seen and experienced a lot and the time together will remain in my memory for a long time. Here I continue with the digital photos of the expedition.

The morning after we arrived in Laukvik.

The first place we visited.

This was the first night we saw the northern lights. Unfortunately, the weather was bad and the clouds constantly covered them.

A short exploration in Laukvik.

The second night with northern lights.

The Laukvik cemetery in the snowstorm.

A dogsledge ride was planned for that day.

Cute animals, very trusting.

In the hut to warm up and philosophise.

Norway Photography Expedition – Part I

From February 7 – 17, 2023, I was on a journey to Northern Norway with three near strangers. We have seen and experienced a lot and the time together will remain in my memory for a long time. These are the analogue photos I took during our arrival and departure.

On February 7, we took off from Zurich airport, flew via Koppenhagen and Stockholm to Kiruna in Sweden. This is Tobi (left) an Fabian (right)…

…and this is Florian, they were my compagnons on this trip.

Arrived at the Copenhagen airport in Denmark. BBC (Burger, Beer & Coffee).

Arrived at the Stockholm Airport in Sweden, waititing for the final flight to Kiruna.

Finally landed in Kiruna, Sweden.

In the shuttle bus from the airport to the old part of the town.

The next day we left Kiruna with the rental car via Abisko across the Norwegian border to Botnhamn in Senja.

Ready to take off.

Driving through harsh land.

A stop at Abisku railway station for train spotting.

A LKAB iron ore train with an endless amount of wagons was waiting there.

A happy Florian.

Continue towards the Norwegian border.

Finally arrived at our home in Laukvik on Senja Island for the next six days, after a 6 hour car ride. Men at work.

Pasta with sausages, really manly.

It has been snowing all night.

We try to free the car from the snow.

First photo-spot.

Already on the way back.

We passed some tanks.on our way from Senja Island to Narvik.

Fabian and I took the train in Narvik for part of the way and cross the Norwegian border to Sweden.

Back at the railway station in Abisko, Sweden.

Toillet break.

Exploring the old part of Kiruna. Because of the mine, the whole town has to be moved because the earth is giving way. You only understand the scale of this project when you see it with your own eyes. Since many people have already moved out of the old part of town, it looks like a ghost town.

Where this park is today, the town hall used to stand. This was demolished and completely rebuilt in the new district.

In the background you can see buildings of the mine.

The balconies of this yellow house were modelled on the passenger lifts in the mine.

Here you can see the barrier. Everything behind this blue wall is empty and deserted and may no longer be entered.

We fill up the tank before we return the rental car.

Back at Kiruna airport.

Back at Stockholm airport on the way home.

To be continued…

March 10, 2023

Here are some random images from the last few months, starting with a trip to Griesalp

I finally get some rolls of Kodak Gold 200. Some walking-by-pictures back in town.

A short trip to Cologne.

And Hamburg, especially the beautiful Speicherstadt.

The Old Elbe Tunnel connects the landing stages with the harbour area.

And the rest of a roll, some shots with my first camera, a Canon EOS 30 and the EF 35mm 2.0 IS.

Some details of a Ford Falcon we walked by.

Christmas 2022 leftovers…

More leftovers

This photo gives a lot of room for interpretation. The portraits on the wall shows the top of the Swiss government (as of 2022). Next to it is a roadblock with red warning signals. In the right background, a young woman stands with her back turned to the politicians and looks at her smartphone. What do you see in this scene?

October 7, 2022

Some photos from the last few months on b&w and colorfilm, 35mm & 50mm mixed.

Got a new Leica MP Blackpaint with a Summicron 50mm (as I started before I switched to 35mm). Back to the roots, but 35mm fits better to me. Some color shots.

A roll of black and white film in the other camera with Summicron 35mm.

Waiting at Geneva Airport, visiting sandrine’s parents in Bretagne, France.

Rest of the color shots. Some pictures for an upcoming book project.

We arrived at the airport in Brest, France.

Sandrine’s father Claude.

Family time in the kitchen.

Back at the airport in Brest, on our way home.

Stranded at Charles de Gaulles Airport in Paris for a few hours, we missed our connection flight to Geneva due late arrival.

Rest of the roll, some random shots.

Bretagne 2022

Visiting Sandrine’s parents in Bretagne for a few days after a long time (Covid-19).

On the way to the beach in the early monring.

Return for breakfast.

Windmills in the fog.

On the road.

Visting Phare d’Eckmühl, a massive lighthouse.

Wandering through paradise. Never saw a botanical garden like this one before. A business man started to collect exotic plants on his journeys around the world over a hundred years ago and has begun to create this place.

Time out, exploring.

The house sheep.

More exploring.

Lovely watermill among a forest.

Iseltwald, April 2022

Here are the images from our trip to Iseltwald, a beautiful little village on the left shore at the Brienzersee in switzerland.

View from the hotel room.

We started to walk to the “Giessbach” waterfalls the upper path through the forest.

Then we returned to the hotel along the riverside path.

The Evil Dead.

December 17, 2021

Surprise! surprise! There were still some pictures on the negative. The rolleiflex has been repaired in the meantime. Some 6×6 frames from our stay in Verona.

October 5, 2021

since corona i feel photographically slowed down. to travel is a strong driver for me to take some serious street shots, all the time at home, i see just the same all the time. of course i want to be sensible and responsible, but soon i hope to get to know a new, still unknown city for me.

verona was a blessing! a beautiful city, not too many tourists and i found my drive to take pictures again! i hope my rolleiflex can be repaired, but i’m looking forward to the next journey of discovery!

The Human Factor II

I took another walk, from the same starting point but this time in the opposite direction, from train station Roggwil-Wynau to Langenthal.

The Human Factor

In addition to the corona crisis, the summer of 2021 is characterized by heat waves, heavy storms and rainfall. Due to the discourse on climate change, I keep thinking about the human factor and the role it plays. If you think about current events, such as the explosion in the port of Beirut in 2020, or the recent chemical plant accidents in Germany and Switzerland, where toxic chemicals were released into the environment, I think it underpins the fact that humans are significantly involved in the increasingly pronounced changes in the environment and society.

A walk I’ve wanted to do for a long time leads from the Roggwil-Wynau train station to Murgenthal. The railroad station in Roggwil-Wynau is located under an overpass bridge for road traffic and is situated in the former Gugelmann area, where yarn used to be produced industrially. Almost my entire family used to be employed there until the company was sold abroad. In the meantime, there is hardly anything left of the old buildings.

If you look carefully, you will notice more and more the effects of climate change in your environment. This summer in particular, the current weather seems to me to be an indication of the unpredictable direction in which global weather is heading.
